Sumatran Hidden Track
Our story begins with our father, Darna Bangun. He is a highly experienced, officially licensed guide who has been leading treks into the Mount Leuser National Park since the early 2000s. Beyond his decades of deep jungle experience, he is also a highly respected community leader in Bukit Lawang, serving as a Kepala Dusun (hamlet chief) known for his integrity and wisdom. Together with our mother, they also founded a traditional restaurant and cozy guesthouses, welcoming travelers with authentic local flavors and warm hospitality.
Our Story
Ever since we were children, we watched our parents collaborate closely with international travel agencies, welcoming adventurers from all corners of the world. Growing up with them as our mentors, we had the unique privilege of learning the secrets of the rainforest directly from our father, while mastering the art of professional hospitality and tourism from our mother.
When our father happily retired from active guiding, we chose to honor our parents’ amazing journey by creating Sumatran Hidden Track. We built this independent eco-tourism agency from the ground up with our own hands, driven by a vision to offer modern, professionally managed trekking experiences that stay deeply rooted in our family’s more than 20 years of authentic local expertise.
To maintain these high standards, we have gathered a dedicated team of local guides. Every single guide at Sumatran Hidden Track is officially licensed, highly experienced, and deeply trustworthy. Together, we are committed to your safety, conservation, and giving you an unforgettable journey. When you trek with us, enjoy our family’s hospitality, and explore with our trusted team, you are experiencing Bukit Lawang through the eyes of the locals who know it best.
Our mission is to provide unforgettable jungle adventures while protecting the natural environment and supporting local communities.
We believe that tourism should not only create great memories but also contribute positively to the place we call home.
