The 4 Day Jungle Trek Bukit Lawang is an ideal adventure for travelers who want to explore deeper into the tropical rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park and experience one of the last remaining wild jungles in Sumatra.

This longer journey gives you more time to discover the rich biodiversity of the rainforest while increasing your chances of seeing Sumatran orangutans in their natural habitat.

Along the trek, you may encounter Thomas leaf monkeys, macaques, gibbons, hornbills, and other wildlife while walking through remote jungle trails. Your journey will be guided by experienced local experts who will share knowledge about the ecosystem, basic jungle survival, and traditional uses of rainforest plants.

One of the highlights of this experience is spending three nights camping in the jungle, surrounded by natural sounds and a peaceful forest atmosphere. This trek is perfect for travelers who want a deeper, longer, and more immersive orangutan trekking experience in Bukit Lawang.

This price follows the standard agreement of the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association (HPI) and the local guide community in Bukit Lawang.

Trekking Duration
Trekking Itinerary

Day 1 – Jungle Trekking Adventure

08:30 AM – Pick Up
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel or guesthouse in Bukit Lawang village.

08:50 AM – Briefing
We meet at the Bukit Lawang Orangutan Tour meeting point for a short briefing about the trekking program and safety guidelines inside Gunung Leuser National Park.

09:00 AM – Start the Jungle Trek
After the briefing we begin our jungle trekking adventure.

The trail leads into the rainforest where we search for wild Sumatran orangutans and other wildlife.
During the trek our guide will explain about jungle plants, animals, and the rainforest ecosystem.
Around midday we stop for a break and enjoy fresh tropical fruits prepared by our guide.
After lunch we continue trekking deeper into the rainforest until we reach our first jungle campsite near the river.
Dinner will be prepared by our guide and we spend the first night camping in the jungle.

Day 2 – Deeper Rainforest Exploration

After breakfast we continue trekking deeper into the rainforest where the jungle becomes more natural and remote.
This area of the forest offers great opportunities to see monkeys, tropical birds, and other wildlife.
During the trek our guide will show interesting jungle plants and explain how local people use them for traditional medicine.
Around midday we stop for lunch and enjoy the peaceful jungle surroundings.
In the afternoon we arrive at our second jungle campsite, where you can relax, swim in the river, or explore the surrounding forest.
Dinner will be prepared by our guide and we spend our second night in the jungle.

Day 3 – Jungle Adventure & Wildlife Search

Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest and enjoy breakfast.
Today we explore another part of the jungle with the possibility to see more wildlife and beautiful rainforest landscapes.
Our guide will help you search for orangutans and other animals while explaining the natural environment of the rainforest.
During the trek we stop for lunch and rest before continuing our journey to the third jungle campsite.
In the evening we enjoy another delicious jungle dinner and spend our third night camping in the rainforest.

Day 4 – Jungle Walk & River Tubing

After breakfast we begin a short morning trek through the jungle before returning to the riverside.
Late in the morning we start the exciting river tubing adventure.
Using large rubber tubes tied together, we float down the Bahorok River while enjoying beautiful rainforest scenery.
This fun activity is one of the highlights of the jungle trekking experience.
The river tubing ends back in Bukit Lawang village, usually around 12:00 – 01:00 PM, near your accommodation.
